1. PROJECT OVERVIEW

Yew Kwang Photography was commissioned to provide EV charging infrastructure photography across more than 40 locations in Singapore, covering residential condominiums, hotels, shopping malls, and commercial developments.

The objective was to create a comprehensive and consistent image library that accurately documented each installation for marketing, corporate communications, project documentation, and future promotional materials.

While the assignment centred on photography, its successful delivery depended equally on strategic planning, efficient logistics, and disciplined execution. With more than 40 sites to be photographed within just five working days, every aspect of the project had to be carefully coordinated before the first shutter was released.

2. THE CHALLENGE

Project map

This was far more than a multi-location photography assignment.

Each site presented its own operational considerations, from property access and visitor traffic to varying architectural environments and changing lighting conditions. The project required consistent photographic standards across dozens of locations while working within a fixed five-day production schedule.

Several key challenges had to be addressed:

  • Photographing more than 40 locations distributed across Singapore.
  • Completing the entire assignment within five working days.
  • Coordinating access to private residential developments, hotels and commercial properties.
  • Working around the varying usage patterns of EV charging stations.
  • Producing a consistent visual style despite the diversity of locations.
  • Maintaining clean, professional imagery while respecting privacy considerations.

The success of the project relied on careful preparation long before the photography began.

3. STRATETIC PLANNING

Detailed planning formed the foundation of the project.

Before the shoot commenced, a comprehensive production schedule was developed for each of the five shooting days. Locations were grouped geographically to optimise travel routes, minimise commuting time, and maximise productivity throughout the assignment.

Each day’s schedule included estimated travel times, photography durations, and contingency allowances, ensuring the project could proceed efficiently while maintaining flexibility should unexpected delays arise.

However, route optimisation was only part of the planning process.

Understanding how each property operated proved equally important. Residential developments typically experienced the highest occupancy of charging bays during the early morning and evening when residents returned home. In contrast, shopping malls and commercial properties often saw increased utilisation during lunchtime and peak business hours.

By anticipating these usage patterns, each location was scheduled at the most appropriate time of day, significantly increasing the likelihood of photographing unoccupied charging stations and reducing unnecessary waiting time.

4. SITE ACCESS AND CORDINATION

Many of the charging stations were located within gated residential developments, hotels, and commercial buildings where public access was restricted.

Prior to the assignment, the client coordinated with individual property management teams and provided official letters of authorisation where required. This preparation helped facilitate smooth access at each location and minimised delays throughout the project.

With multiple stakeholders involved across numerous sites, careful coordination was essential to keeping the production on schedule.

5. ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Professional photography extends beyond selecting the right camera angle.

Before photographing each installation, the charging stations and surrounding environment were carefully prepared to ensure every image presented the facility at its best.

Charging cables were neatly arranged, surrounding areas were checked for debris or litter, and distracting elements such as refuse bins, temporary barriers, maintenance equipment, or other non-essential objects were repositioned wherever possible.

These small refinements created cleaner, more professional photographs while maintaining an accurate representation of each site.

This attention to detail ensured a polished and consistent presentation across every location, regardless of property type.

6. PHOTOGRAPHY APPROACH — ACROSS DIVERSE ENVIRONMENTS

With EV charging installations located across residential developments, hotels, shopping malls and commercial properties, each site presented a different architectural and operational environment.

The photographic approach was therefore adapted to each location while maintaining a consistent visual standard throughout the project. Composition, perspective, lighting and framing were carefully considered to clearly document the charging infrastructure while placing each installation within its surrounding environment.

The result is a cohesive collection of images that reflects the diversity of the locations while maintaining a consistent visual language across more than 40 sites.

7. PRIVACY AND CONSIDERATIONS

Another important consideration was maintaining clean, distraction-free imagery while respecting privacy.

Wherever possible, photographs were planned to avoid occupied charging bays, parked vehicles, and visible vehicle licence plates. Camera positions, shooting angles, and timing were carefully selected to minimise visual distractions and produce uncluttered compositions that kept the viewer’s attention focused on the charging infrastructure.

These considerations not only enhanced the visual quality of the photographs but also ensured the images remained suitable for corporate communications and marketing purposes.

8. IMAGE SELECTION, MANAGEMENT & DELIVERY

Large-scale projects require a disciplined approach to image selection and asset management.

After each location was photographed, images were carefully reviewed to select the strongest photographs based on composition, lighting, clarity, presentation, and the overall condition of the surrounding environment. The final selection was then curated to maintain a consistent visual standard across more than 40 locations while ensuring each EV charging installation was clearly and professionally represented.

To simplify asset management for the client, every selected image was delivered using a structured naming convention based on the individual site location followed by sequential numbering. This enabled the client to quickly identify, search, and manage photographs across all properties without requiring additional sorting or renaming.

The result was a cohesive, well-organised image library that could be readily integrated into marketing collateral, project documentation, reports, and future communications—showcasing the EV charging infrastructure in the best possible light across Singapore.

9. PROJECT OUTCOME

The assignment was successfully completed within the planned five-day schedule, delivering comprehensive photographic coverage across all designated locations.

The final image library provided the client with a consistent collection of professionally photographed EV charging installations spanning residential condominiums, hotels, shopping malls, and commercial developments throughout Singapore.

More than simply documenting the infrastructure, the project demonstrated the importance of careful planning, logistical coordination, and meticulous execution in delivering a complex multi-location photography assignment efficiently and consistently.

10. WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS
